Alexander Hülshoff
Alexander Hülshoff, originally from the German Palatinate, is internationally active as both a soloist and chamber musician. He is known for his expressive playing and his powerful, warm, and nuanced sound. As a soloist, he has performed with numerous German and international orchestras and has appeared in concert across Europe, Asia, Russia, and North and South America.
Chamber music forms a central part of his artistic work, notably as cellist of Trio Bamberg and in collaborations with musicians such as Pinchas Zukerman and Fazıl Say. He has performed in leading venues including Berliner Philharmonie, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Wigmore Hall.
Hülshoff is founder and artistic director of the Kloster Kamp Chamber Music Festival and artistic director of Villa Musica. Since 1997, he has been professor of cello at the Folkwang University of the Arts, and since 2014 he has served as artistic director of the Orchesterzentrum NRW. He studied in Karlsruhe and with Lynn Harrell at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
